Job Costing Worksheets

The MacNail construction accounting software includes a sample cost control worksheet. To see it, choose *Open Cost Control from the FILE menu, click on Keller Cost Control, and click OK.

NOTE-- In 2000, MacNail was replaced by Goldenseal construction accounting software. Goldenseal is an integrated program that includes general accounting, job costing, payroll and project billing, plus estimating and other features. Goldenseal generates job cost reports automatically, without need for spreadsheets or manual posting.

Keller Cost Control is a 'one level' cost control worksheet, itemized into the 30 MacNail construction divisions. Other cost control worksheets can use the 16 CSI construction divisions, or some other system of construction categories.

Each construction division has two columns apiece for labor, materials, and subcontractors, plus two columns for a total for the division. The left half of each pair is in italic--it represents the 'estimated' cost for each category. The right half shows the costs to date, posted there from the different Ledgers and Logbooks.estimated costsactual costscosts, estimatedcosts, actual

Soft Costs such as supervision, overhead and contingencies are also itemized, and a total is given for each column near the bottom of the worksheet.

On the right side of the worksheet is a 'calculation area' that lets you predict total project cost while the project is underway.
