Material Costs Entry

You can open the Material Log in several ways. Probably the easiest is to choose *Material Log from the McN menu. If you want to open a specific Material Log, choose *Open File from the FILE menu, then click on Material Log. See page 158 for further information.

Entering Data

The Material Log is designed for data that is typed in from delivery tickets, invoices, or purchase orders.

NOTE-- In 2000, MacNail was replaced by Goldenseal construction accounting software. Goldenseal is an integrated program that includes general accounting, job costing, payroll and project billing, plus estimating and other features. Material Purchase transactions in Goldenseal, are very similar to the Material Log.

To speed up the job costing process in the MacNail construction accounting software, you may want to have your major suppliers mail you material invoices on a weekly basis. That way you can job cost (and bill) for materials quicker, and avoid that data-entry pileup at the beginning of the month.

An alternative is to have construction material suppliers price out each item on delivery tickets. This works only if you can reliably get a high percentage of delivery tickets out of the mud and sawdust, and into your office!

You will probably still get statements at the end of the month. For information on using the Material Log to handle your Accounts Payable, see page 193.

Most of the columns of the Material Log are handled similarly to those in the Labor Log.
