Check Numbers

NOTE-- These manual pages cover our older MacNail construction accounting software, which we retired in 2000. It has been replaced by Goldenseal, which is an integrated business management program that includes general accounting, job costing, payroll and project billing, plus construction cost estimating, contract writing and simple scheduling. Goldenseal includes checking transactions, which are similar to the line items in a MacNail ledger.

Job Site (Full Ledger only)

The MacNail construction accounting software "looks up" the job site name from the Master Index. Check here to make sure it is the proper job site. If it is not, go back and check the code you entered into the job column.

The 'lookup function' for Job site looks for the first job code equal to or above the code you have typed into the job# column. Be careful --if you type in a wrong code, the next higher job name will be entered.

You can type in the name of 'one of a kind' job sites which aren't worth entering into the Master Index. It will be more difficult to use the automated functions on these items, so use the Master Index whenever possible.

NOTE: If the proper job site is not being 'looked up', the row may already have had its 'lookup formula' removed when rows were added. Choose *Lookup Formulas... from the FORMULA menu to replace it.

Check Numbers

Sequential check numbers are entered automatically when you use *Add Rows from the EDIT menu.
If you change to a different numbering sequence, change the check number of the very last item, and the new sequence will be used the next time you run *Add Rows.

To enter an item that is not in the check number sequence, use *Ledger Item from the EDIT menu (see page 72).
