Accounting Memory Management

If you are using Excel version 2.2 or greater, we recommend strongly that you have a minimum of two megabytes of RAM. If you currently have a standard 1-megabyte Macintosh, you should either use Excel version 1.5, or plan to add the extra memory when using the MacNail construction accounting software.

NOTE-- In 2000, MacNail was replaced by Goldenseal construction accounting software. Goldenseal is an integrated program that includes general accounting, job costing, payroll and project billing, plus estimating and other features. Goldenseal automatically manages memory on modern operating systems. It's frugal, and doesn't require much.

Memory Partition

To set a memory partition size for Excel:
1. Quit Excel.
2. Click once on the Excel application icon to select it.
3. Choose Get Info from the FILE menu.
4. For Excel 1.5--type 1000 (K) into the 'memory size' box at the lower right.
5. For Excel 2.2--enter any number you wish. We recommend at least 1000. You can adjust it up from there depending on your needs and the memory available in your computer.
