Construction Item Description

Construction estimating unit cost for installation of a groove and air barrier strip between logs in a log wall.

Unit Size

One square foot of horizontal wall area.

Labor Costs

We figure that a carpenter can install grooves and strips on about 17 square feet of wall per hour, with half time help from an unskilled worker.

The cost includes marking and cutting a 1/8" groove on both sides of 50 lineal feet of logs, ripping hardboard paneling into 2" strips, installation of the strips and additional labor for log placement.

Material Costs

The cost includes a little hardboard paneling for the strips.
