Log Chinking Unit Cost

Construction Item Description

Log construction estimating cost for chinking cracks in a log wall with asphalt roof cement.

Unit Size

One square foot of horizontal wall area.

Labor Costs

We figure that an unskilled worker can chink about 33 square feet of wall area per hour (80 lineal feet of cracks).

Material Costs

One five-gallon pail of asphalt roof cement per 125 square feet of wall area (280 lineal feet of cracks).

Suggested Quantity

Exterior wall area.

Source of Construction Pricing

Based on crew timing and job cost data from one log project done by Turtle Creek Construction.

NOTE-- This may not be the most ideal way to chink log walls, but it matched the previous construction details for the existing structure. We used a large refillable bulk caulking gun.
