Roof Shingles Removal Cost

Construction ITEM DESCRIPTION

Construction demolition unit cost for removing 3-tab asphalt roof shingles.

Unit Size

One square foot of roofing area.

Labor Costs

We figure one unskilled worker can remove about 100 square feet of asphalt shingles per hour. That includes stripping 2 or 3 layers of shingles plus flashing and drip edge, tossing them into a dump truck or dumpster, and removing or hammering down any protruding nails.

This price does not include the cost of installing fall barriers or disposal chutes.

Material Costs

We throw in one lost wrecking bar per 500 square feet of demolition. The cost helps cover lost and damaged tools, plus incidental expenses such as gloves.

Suggested Quantity

The suggested quantity is the roof demolition area, which is a simple quantity that you'll type into the structural dimensions screen.

Source of Construction Pricing

This was an educated guess, based on imprecise job cost data from a few re-roofing and remodeling projects. Turtle Creek Construction never actually timed our crews for this demolition item.

Likewise, the removal cost probably increases as the roof gets steeper, but we didn't try to refine the options.

HINT-- If your crew does a lot of roofing work, they can probably get shingles removed much more quickly than we ever did! If that's the case, you might want to reduce the labor quantity.
