Cedar Shakes Roofing Cost |
Construction Item Description Roofing estimating unit cost for installation of hand-split cedar roof shingles or "shakes". Unit Size One square (one hundred square feet). Labor Costs We figure about 4 hours of skilled labor and 1/3 hour of unskilled labor to install one square of straight roofing. NOTE-- There are additional unit costs for underlayment, caps at ridges and hips, flashing valleys, and for steep roofs that require roof jacks. This price also does not include the cost for installing fall barriers or scaffolding. Material Costs The cost includes sufficient cedar shingles to cover one square (100 square feet) of roof area, with an 8% waste factor. Suggested Quantity Goldenseal calculates the roofing area in square feet and squares. Source of Construction Pricing Based on job costing data from one project done by Turtle Creek Construction. Our pricing is based on a fairly small remodeling project. You can probably decrease the labor costs considerably if you have skilled crews installing large quantities of shakes.
