Salamander (Space Heater) Rental Cost |
Construction ITEM DESCRIPTION Construction unit cost covering the rental of a kerosene fired space heater (salamander) for one day. Labor Costs We figure 1/5 unskilled hour per day for pickup, refilling and return. HINT-- Our experience is that winter work that requires space heating also results in reduced productivity. Depending on conditions, there may be anywhere from 5% to 50% productivity loss, caused by equipment difficulties, snow removal, uncomfortable working conditions and extra preparation time. You can handle this extra time with a "fudge" factor or with additional unit costs. You may also choose to absorb the extra costs as an overhead cost, as a way to keep your crews busy during the slow season and avoid unemployment insurance charges. Material Costs We figure 5 gallons of kerosene burned per day, plus a daily rental cost. NOTE-- Some versions of Goldenseal list the rental cost as a weekly rate, but have 1 unit per day instead of 1/7 units. That was corrected in December 2004. Suggested Quantity No suggested quantity. You'll need to figure the approximate number of heaters needed, and the approximate number of heating days that will be required. Multiply those two quantities to get the number of units needed for this item. Source of Construction Pricing Very simple logic.
