Estimating Allowance Costs

Construction ITEM DESCRIPTION

An allowance in each estimate to cover the estimating time itself.

We use a "rule of thumb" quantity that is designed to cover the cost of this estimate, plus two other estimates that you don't get.

Labor Costs

The "rule of thumb" figures about one hour of estimating per 100 square feet of project floor area (multiplied by 3 to cover two other estimates).

Material Costs

None.

Source of Construction Pricing

An extremely rough estimate. You might want to adjust this amount up or down, depending on the size and complexity of the construction projects that you estimate.

Places Included

Architect Starter File, Construction Starter File, Developer Starter File, Metric Starter File, Drywall Starter File, Framing Starter File, Paint Starter File

Comments

This assembly is another excellent place to shift some overhead costs to direct project hard costs instead.

It's easy keep track of the time spent on project estimating, so you might as well include it as a line item in the estimate itself-- and then job cost the time directly to the project.
