2x6 Ceiling Framing Cost

Construction ITEM DESCRIPTION

Construction estimating unit cost for ceiling joists framed with 2x6 lumber.

This unit cost generally applies to rooms with a 12 foot or longer span.

Unit Size

One square foot of ceiling area.

Labor Costs

We figure that a skilled carpenter can frame about 59 square feet of ceiling area per hour, with a little help from an unskilled worker. The price is adjusted if there is some other spacing for ceiling framing in the Structural Dimensions screen.

Material Costs

The cost includes 0.64 lineal feet of lumber per square foot of area. That includes basic 24" joist spacing with some additional materials for cross bracing, framing for lights and loss at the ends. The price is adjusted if there is some other spacing for ceiling framing in the Structural Dimensions screen.

The price also includes fasteners and some utility wire for attachment at the center of the span.

Suggested Quantity

Based on the framing ceiling area from the Structural Dimensions screen.

NOTE-- If your ceilings are attached to roof trusses or the upstairs floor joists, you do not need to enter ceiling framing. This unit cost applies only when there is an independent 'hung' ceiling framing.
