NOTE-- This cost only includes the basic structural framing under the deck. To calculate the total cost of a deck, you'll also need to add deck flooring, railings, posts, and possibly other structural framing work. You may also need to add costs for connecting the deck to an existing structure, including flashing and other details.

We figure that a carpenter can install deck joists on about 33 square feet of floor area per hour.

The cost includes 0.85 lineal feet of treated 2x6 per square foot of deck area. That covers joist spacing at 16" centers, plus some extra for internal beams, and/or rim joists at the ends of the deck.
