Wall Framing Estimates

Problem

In Goldenseal construction estimating software versions 4.7 and earlier, the suggested quantities for wall framing missed framing that was entered in a "room-by-room" estimate.

Workaround

We have fixed this problem in Starter Files shipped with version 4.8 of Goldenseal estimating software.

If you use an earlier version and sometimes create "room by room" estimates, follow these steps to fix the unit cost data in your company file:

  1. Open your company file.
  2. Choose Assemblies from the Costs menu.
  3. Choose Find from the Edit menu.
  4. Click the Sales Setup button, and enter Int Walls Upper Length into the Suggested Dimension field.
  5. Click OK, then click the Find button. You'll find about 27 matches.
  6. Click the Sales Setup button, and change the Suggested Dimension field to Int Walls Total Length.
  7. Choose Replace All from the Edit menu, and replace the Suggested Dimension field.
  8. Repeat steps 3 to 7, but find Ext Walls Upper Story Length and replace it with Ext Walls Total Length.

Solution

Current Starter Files already include this fix.

Technical Details

Programmer note-- no code changes, this is just a problem in the estimating unit cost data. We were using the total of basic dimension framing, rather than the calculator that also includes room framing.
