Enter Key for New Table Rows |
Problem In Goldenseal accounting software for Windows, the left Enter key adds rows, but the right one doesn't. Some users find that distinction confusing. In the manual we have referred to the left Enter key as the "middle" enter key, but that has also been confusing people. So starting with Goldenseal accounting software version 3.1, BOTH Enter keys will add rows if at the bottom of the table. When not at the bottom of a table, the two keys will still have different action (the left key moves down a row, while the right key saves the current record). Caught By One magazine reviewer felt very strongly about this item. Workaround In version 3.01 and earlier, use the Enter key in the middle of the keyboard to add new rows to the bottom of a breakdown table. Click in the bottom row and hit Enter. Use the Enter key on the right side of the keyboard to save the current record. Solution In version 3.1 and later, we have revised the Enter key behavior to be more consistent and easier to explain: The LEFT Enter key (in the middle of the keyboard) dooes the following:

Technical Details On the Mac there is a Return key (in the middle of the keyboard) and an Enter key (in the numeric keypad). Return mimics the 'carriage return' of a typewriter, while Enter tends to enter things. Why MS didn't do the same thing in Windows is a mystery.
