Manager Backups

Problem

working with a duplicate or backup copy of Managers, Excel etc in MacNail construction estimating software
due to 'code change' bug, file corruption problems, etc

NOTE-- This answer applies to MacNail construction software, which we retired in 2001. It has been replaced by Goldenseal estimating software and accounting software for Macintosh and Windows.

Diagnosis

User has to frequently replace a manager or the Excel application. How to keep a copy on the hard drive instead, so it won't have to be installed from the original floppy disk

Solution

1. Install the Manager or other file.
2. Set the main files, set up payroll options and any other things stored in the Manager.
3. Close the Manager.
4. Switch to the Finder.
5. Find the file, and select it by clicking on its icon.
6. From the File menu, choose Duplicate. You'll then have an Accounting Manager 3.4 copy or whatever.

TO REPLACE A DAMAGED FILE WITH ITS COPY:
1. Drag the Accounting Manager 3.4 or whatever into the Trash.
2. Rename Accounting Manager 3.4 copy to be Accounting Manager 3.4
3. Select the file, and choose Duplicate from the File menu, to make a new backup copy.

CLOSING SUGGESTION:
when they quit from Excel, first close the Manager, then Quit. One user has reported that when they do that, they're much less likely to have problem than if they choose Quit while the Manager is still open.
