Basic Accounting Features

Problem

Does MacNail construction accounting software do "accounts receivable", "accounts payable", "general ledger", "balance sheet"? Is it double-entry?

Diagnosis

Make sure user knows what s/he means by these terms first! Then:

  • double-entry: NO. It is a single-entry, checkbook-style accounting program.
  • accounts receivable: yes, we do this through job costing
  • accounts payable: is done through reports- mat'l reports, labor reports, etc. can also be found via query box.
  • we don't print out or display a standard accounting general ledger. (cont) HOWEVER, any information contained in a general ledger is accessible through the query box.
  • as yet (Acct 3.3) we don't do a balance sheet.

Solution

Basically, these are questions from the user's accountant. MacNail isn't a 'classic' accounting program, but it offers most of the features of such programs.

NOTE-- Goldenseal accounting software is much better at satisfying accountants or others who are used to 'classic' accounting. The best answer to any of the above is simply 'yes'.
