Problem
XL5 problems-- opening Misc Log bombs (usually type 11).
Miscellaneous log crashes on PowerMac with Excel 5 when
using MacNail Macintosh accounting
software. Needs replace or rebuild
NOTE-- Goldenseal accounting software is much more reliable
than MacNail ever was. Updating these tech answers has been a
stroll down memory lane, through all of the weird problems caused
by Excel.
Diagnosis
• Can they pay Misc items from Ledger? That's how most people do it. Change in the Cost
Control Manager, under Options-- Job Cost Options.
•
If they are having Type 11 errors elsewhere, they may want to go back to XL 4.0. Call 800 360-7561 to request
it (free).
Solution
• Can try replacing Misc Log with a copy of Subcontractor
Log. To do so:
1. If Sample Subcontractor Log or some other Subcontractor Log is available, open it. Otherwise choose New
Accounting Files and make a new Subcontr. Log. DO NOT make it the main file.
2. Choose Save As from File menu, and rename the xxxxx Subcontractor Log to be xxxxx Misc Log. (note-- if
they already have a Misc log with that name, give it a slightly different name).
3. Select all data entry rows (from just under title to just above end row).
4. Choose Clear Rows to erase the existing data in the Macintosh
accounting software files.
5. Choose Lookup Formulas from Formula menu.
6. If step #5 asked to remove lookup formulas, choose Lookup Formulas from the Formula menu again to restore
them.
7. This will give them a clean misc log. Will need to copy data
from old misc log into it. To do so, add rows to new log so there's room
for all. Unprotect both documents. Select all data rows in old log, Copy.
Paste into
new log.
NOTES: Replacing Manager doesn't seem to work for this
problem, but you can try it if the above doesn't help.
See TA 446 for more on Type 11 problems.
