Estimating Framing Quantities

NOTE-- We retired the BidMagic construction estimating software in 2001. It has been replaced by Goldenseal construction estimating software.

We still include this BidMagic estimating software manual as a convenience for users of our older program. Many features are similar, in Goldenseal estimating.

The BidMagic construction estimating software calculates framing quantities on the Structural Dimensions card.

Framing Quantities

Enter the total quantity of new framing (or other structural work) that is a part of the project. BidMagic uses these quantities for framing estimating (including both the labor and material price of the construction).

  • Roofs-- Enter the total square footage of new roof framing that is a part of the project. NOTE: If you lock this quantity, it will be calculated for you, based on the horizontal area under new roof framing, the slope and the overhang--all from the Roof Card. Unlock the field to enter a different quantity.
  • Ceilings-- Enter the total square foot area of new independent ceiling framing. NOTE: Only include ceilings that require their own framing--do not include any ceilings that will be attached to roof framing or roof trusses, or to the underside of floor framing on the next story up.
  • Interior Walls-- Enter the total lineal footage of new interior wall framing, interior masonry walls, or other wall structures.
  • Exterior Walls-- Enter the total lineal footage of new exterior wall framing, exterior masonry walls, or other wall structures.
  • Upper Floors-- Enter the total square foot area of new floor framing on the second and higher floors. NOTE: Only include the area that is getting new floor joists or trusses--subfloor is handled separately, later on.
  • Main Floors-- Enter the total square foot area of new floor joists or floor trusses on the first floor.
