Backing Up

Because computer information can get lost, it's important that you keep backup copies of your BidMagic files.

NOTE-- We retired the BidMagic construction estimating software program in 2001. It has been replaced by Goldenseal construction estimating software.

We still include this BidMagic estimating software manual as a convenience for die-hard users of our older estimation programs.

Backing up your Program Disks

Make one copy of the original floppy disks before using them, then use the copies to install BidMagic construction estimating software onto your hard drive. Never use the original master disks.

Carefully store the master disks and the copies--they are your backups for the original BidMagic files, if your hard drive copies are ever damaged. Backup floppies should stay cool and dry, and should be kept away from magnetic fields of all kinds. Keep them away from electrical devices (including the sides and top of your computer, hard drive and printer).

NOTE: If necessary, replacement disks may be ordered from Turtle Creek. We do charge a small fee for shipping and handling, except for damaged disks reported within 30 days of purchase.

Backing Up Your Daily Work

Be sure to make frequent backup copies of your estimates and reports as you create them--using floppy disks, a second hard drive or a tape backup unit.

HINT: Your data is precious! Consider a second backup copy for all important files. Store it off-premises for protection against fire, theft, or other calamities.

You can back up files using the Finder, or use the BidMagic construction estimating program itself to save full estimates, or much smaller archive files. Once you have stored backup copies of inactive reports or estimates, you may remove them from your hard drive to free up space, if necessary.
