Is there way to make
saving faster when there are many records?
When Goldenseal accounting
software saves a record, it does several things:
- It posts the transactions to any accounts or other records affected by
the change (and then also saves those records).
- It updates one or more arrays which
keep track of records, so menus will work faster.
- It stores the current position of the record on your
hard drive, and frees up wasted space.
- It saves all changes to your hard drive.
For most transactions the saving process takes much less than a second. However it may take
a few seconds in any of these cases:
- When you have thousands or tens of thousands of records of the same type.
- When the transaction includes hundreds of breakdown
items.
- When your hard drive is running slowly because of fragmentation, or because
it is almost full.
In Goldenseal version 3.0 we found a way to shave one or two seconds off the time it takes
to save a record when you have thousands or tens of thousands of records.
Other than that, you can do any of the following to help increase speed:
- Make sure your hard disk has at least 10% free space.
- Run a disk defragmentation program every few months.
- Get a faster hard drive, or a faster
computer.
